We have all experienced getting wet while riding in a boat. That's all part of the joy of owning one. But, what we don't care for is the obnoxious soaking one can experience from an improperly installed transom-mounted depth finder transducer. A "roostertail" generated by a fast moving boat is simply made by a transducer one has set too deeply. This usually has occurred when its user simply has become frustrated with the performance of his electronic fishfinder or depth finding equipment and in a futile effort to correct it, made it worse...and it's obvious. (If you're reading this, you know what we are talking about). The user, most likely, read somewhere on a popular boating/fishing forum or was instructed by someone who had little knowledge about proper mounting or adjustment of a transducer to shove it deeper for best results. He most likely found out that the suggestions were counter-productive.
Transom-mounted transducers are widely accepted as the the most effective types of transducers. The marine electronics manufacturers are the best in the world. Properly mounting a transducer is not without trepidation, not only to stay dry, but to gain its maximum designed effectiveness.
