Let's start with an easy one.
Water:
We should plan on each person needing a gallon a day. Realize that even though you don’t drink a gallon a day, you will use much of it for cooking food to eat. The remainder you will drink. This doesn’t include any water needs for sanitary, cleaning, bathing, laundry, etc.
So each of us would need 90 gallons (per person) to survive for only 90 days. How many gallons do you have? Now don’t feel bad – none of us have enough. The goal is to realize how far behind we are, so we’ll be motivated to do something about it – to get started on fixing the problem and start storing water when/where we can.
If you’d like some Water Barrels for food storage, we have some in stock.
Ready for harder tests?
Fuel:
If fuel (gasoline) was cut-off, how much fuel do you have? You would run out in a few days. How many 5 gallon containers do you have? Do you know why you have to buy ‘premium’ if you choose to store fuel? Premium today, stored in a 5 gallon container, is ‘regular’ in about 12 months as it loses its octane over time. Even if you have four 5 gallon containers, that will only refill your car ‘once’. That’s a weeks worth of fuel. Get some containers and get more fuel stored. If I told you that even though gas today ($1.29) will be $1.85-$2.10 by the end of 2009, would you store more fuel? Well, it will be - get some gas.
Electricity:
What would you do if the electricity was out for 3 weeks? Houston just experienced that in 2008. All your food in your refrigerator would go bad in 48 hours; your freezer would last 3 days. Now you'll need to cook all that food just to use it up so it won't go bad. But you can’t cook as you have no electricity (unless you have natural gas stove). Now what are you going to do with $300 worth of refrigerator/freezer food that you just cooked? Then comes the hard question - What are you going to do in 4 days when you have no fresh food?
Realize you need a generator big enough to run your refrigerator/freezer, and you need the fuel (gasoline) to run that generator. Realize a generator uses about 3-5 times what a car uses, so if you have 20 gallons of gasoline, you have enough fuel to run a generator for 4 hours a day for about 3-4 days. See the problem? You need a generator and more fuel.
How did you do on these easy ones?
Now, are you ready for a hard one?
Pestilence:
Do you know what pestilence is (I thought I did but I was wrong)? Realize our food storage won’t do us any good if we can’t handle the pestilence also.
I am sure you’ve read the scriptures, and realize in the last days there would be ‘famines’ in the land. We’ve all read those scriptures, so we were smart and started a food storage program – and that is great. Now are you ready to reread those same scriptures and learn a higher life-lesson? When I read these, I found new words that weren't there before - or at least I chose to not see them before. Now you will notice in the same scriptures you've read before, that ‘famine’ goes hand in hand with the word ‘pestilence’ (read the scriptures below).
Matt. 24: 7
7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
Luke 21: 11
11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.
Are we ready?
As we can see, we aren’t ready, no matter how much water, food and fuel we have. If you’d like more information about Pestilence and how to be ready, read the following:
Pestilence Preparedness
Protecting your family in a time of crisis.
I salute you for realizing that we need to equally prepare for Pestilence as we are for Famine.
I thought “pestilence” was from ‘pests’, so I thought we’d get an infestation of locusts, grasshoppers, bees, fly’s, etc, just like the Egyptians. So I thought I needed tons of bug spray, bug killers, very sealable containers for my food, tape to seal off my house, so I went out and bought all that stuff and then found out I was wrong and didn’t even understand what the term “pestilence” meant.
Pestilence is similar to a plague. Here is definition on Wikipedia:
"A pestilence is any virulent and highly infectious disease that can cause an epidemic or even a pandemic. The word can also be used about parasites causing large scale sickness and death, such as Guinea worm. Originally the word referred to the bubonic plague, which is called pestis in Latin."
So in our day, pestilence can be Swine Flu, Anthrax, Asian Bird-flu, Black Plague, Bubonic Plague, any biological weapon or chemical weapon, etc. Now this is where I got scared. I don’t have anything to protect my family from those, especially if it’s airborne. So pretend it’s airborne, ask yourself:
How will you protect your family from an airborne illness?
How can you keep them alive when simple ‘breathing’ can kill them?
The scriptures say in the last days 1/3rd of mankind will die; then some of the remaining are also killed. That is about 3-4 billion of us in this world. I don’t see how that would happen with bombing each other, but an airborne plague, now that would do it. At the beginning of this ‘pestilence’ thought, my personal feelings were “if it gets that bad, I’m ready to die and I don’t want to live”; but over time, I realized I was mad that I had to prepare for something that I had no control over. A famine is less threatening, as all I’d have to do is to store some water, food and fuel and that problem is solved. This airborne virus thing was upsetting me because it was out of my ability to provide an easy solution. Another reason was as time marched on, I could feel God telling me he needed me to stay alive and I was to assist others to stay alive as well. He let me know that deciding to have the feelings of “if it gets that bad, I’m ready to die” wasn’t in my future, and I had to do something about it. I felt even more impressed that there were others that he wants/needs to be alive also, and it was my duty to assist them to stay alive when these troubled times came. These are the reasons I am posting these things, as I’m trying to find the ones that God wants me to assist them in staying alive. It is to you that I wrote this article.
On the positive side, airborne viruses are short-term, meaning they last usually a few days to a few weeks. As the earth recycles the air, much of any airborne pestilence will resolve itself quickly. The following isn’t a life-style, as it is a short-term way of living to stay alive until the earth can recycle our air, so we can have a normal life again.
Here is what we need to survive (I’ll start with the hard ones, then it gets easier):
The first thing we need are HEPA air masks for our faces for when we are outside to filter out all contaminants we might breath (remember seeing all the Japanese people wearing masks in public when the bird-flu hit them?) N95 Masks are good, but HEPA masks are better. (I have HEPA masks you can purchase for only $4.00 each)
We also need to create a ‘safe-room’ in our home which we keep clean from outside airborne plagues. To create a safe room, you’ll want rolls of plastic to seal off the outside. You’ll also want rolls of duct tape to seal off doors, windows, vents, etc. You’ll also want to create a mini-staging-room (decontamination room) next to the entrance of your safe-room, so people can decontaminate themselves before coming into the safe-room. People will spray themselves with a solution (water with 10-20% bleach) to wipe themselves completely before entering the safe room.
You will also want ‘filters’ on your vents for your in-house heating and air-conditioning system to keep the bulk of the airborne plagues outside (I have access to those as well – only $10 for 12 vents). You’ll want to seal off all your doors and windows from the inside using the plastic and/or duct tape when you feel it is time to create your safe-room.
In your safe-room, you’ll want a HEPA filter air cleaning system (I can guide you where to get these cheaply – cost $60-150). I would encourage you (if you can afford it) to buy 1-2 units for your safe room; then another 1-2 more for the inside of your home. This will keep your home safe from all outside airborne plagues (pestilence).
Just as you saw the Japanese/Chinese people on TV wearing masks walking on the streets because of the bird flu or SARS, we will end up doing the same thing here in America, but DO NOT use the masks you saw them wear, as those masks are not HEPA masks and won’t filter out Swine Flu, Bird-flu, Anthrax, etc; you must wear HEPA masks (which I have plenty if you want to pick up a few).
So my Pestilence Kit has in it:
Several emergency HEPA air masks for everyone - Available online ($3.49 ea).
HEPA suits - Buy at Harbor Freight Tools ($6-9 ea)
Several Duct Tape Rolls - Costco (3 big rolls for $14)
Rolls of plastic sheeting - Lowes/Home Depot ($9 ea)
Latex gloves - Harbor Freight Tools ($8 box)
HEPA filters for the air conditioning/heater vents - Available online ($12 ea)
A few 2x4’s to build a staging room just outside the safe room - Lowes ($2 ea).
Honeywell HEPA air filtering systems - many on eBay for cheap ($60-90 ea).
New empty Spray bottles for bleach-solutions for decon room - any store ($1 ea).
5 Gallons of bleach - any grocery store ($1.50 ea).
So as you can see, it’s not too expensive to be ready. You may be feeling overwhelmed right now; I did when I first realized I had nothing to be ready. Please don’t feel alone, I felt what your feeling. This is where I wanted to give up and just be willing to die. Then I realized it’s not too tough to simply get started, if I buy a little here and there and within a few months, I’ll have most of the supplies I need. It’s like food storage, just start with a little and let it grow. Just buy a few HEPA filters this month, then buy a few 2x4’s from Lowes, bleach the 3rd month; then work on the other items as money permits. I can assist you with most things on the list if you’d like some assistance.
So here is your plan of action:
Before an Emergency:
Decide on your emergency safe room
Get your Pestilence Kit in that room with all the supplies.
In an Emergency:
• Immediately wear your HEPA air masks (might keep one in your bedroom and another in your car).
• Grab your 72 hour kits (you have them, right?).
• Get as much water/food as you can in the time provided to the safe room.
(you created a grab-n-go container last week – remember?).
• Grab your emergency tool bag (the one you put together last summer).
• Get your family into the safe room.
• Seal off the heating/air conditioning vents with Duct Tape in your home unless you bought the vent filters for bateria and air borne viruses.
• Seal off windows with Duct Tape.
• Seal off door frames with Duct Tape (Tape door bottom to floor).
• Turn on Hepa Air Filter System (the one you bought 2 months ago on ebay for $60).
• From the inside of the safe room, start building a staging area (decon room) for anyone to come in from the entrance door to decontaminate themselves before entering the safe room. Put Bleach Solution Spray Bottles in Decon staging area. Use wood from bed/dresser/night stands / closet shelves / etc. (if you have didn't have money to buy 2x4's from Lowe's), so you can build a Decon Room. Do not leave this room without absolute need. If you leave, you must seal off all parts of your body, wear long sleeve shirts and seal your clothing/shoes/gloves/etc to each other with duct tape. If you were able to buy them, wear HEPA suit, goggles, HEPA air mask, latex or rubber gloves, duct tape boots, duct tape pants to shoes, sleeves to gloves, mask to hood and shirt. Duct tape entire shoes/boots, as shoes breath. I know this sounds nuts, and we'd all agree to die rather than to live like that, but the Japanese wore masks to protect themselves for a few weeks/months, and now they are happy to be alive and to have their children and families also alive. Remember when it hits us, it will only last a short time and it will pass. We just have to be ready for the short term.
Now I saved one of the best, easiest and cheapest solutions for last. When you catch the depth of this story, you’ll see you can be prepared and stay alive with only 1 item.
I encourage you to research on the internet something called “Thieves Oil”. This oil was originally used by four thieves from the 15th Century who would go through all the dead bodies of people killed by the Black Plague to find money or items of value. These men never contracted the plague nor got sick, even though they were surrounded by it, touching Black Plague bodies all day. Once these men were caught, their lives were spared if they told their secret of how they stayed alive while touching tons of dead people killed by plagues without contracting the infection. The thieves shared their concoction of precious oils which became known as ‘Thieves Oil’ – as it’s made up of "high quality" essential oils. There are a few versions of this oil out there in the marketplace, but I believe that the best one (highest quality – what is your life worth?) is by Young Living Essential Oils. I encourage you to buy a few bottles of Thieves Oil, as that alone, might save your families lives (even if you don’t have any of the other items listed above). I have many bottles and you can purchase them from me if you’d like, or you can purchase them from anywhere, but realize we must be using this oil when any Pestilence hits us. This oil can keep us alive. This is our #1 guard against it. Read the stories on the internet about "Thieves Oil Testimonials" and you’ll see for yourself. Research indicates that ALL viruses, fungi, plagues, parasites and bacteria cannot live in the presence of many true essential oils, especially those high in phenols, carcacrol, thymol, and terpenes, all of which Thieves Oil contains.
We hope this helps you be prepared better.
