Let's face it, housework is something that a lot of us just don't look forward to. Today's hectic households, with kids and 2 spouses working, sometimes taking care of elderly parents and single parent households does not allow us the needed time even if we did enjoy housework. No need to fret more and more maid services are now only a phone call away.
THE GOOD
What a relief! "All I have to do is make a phone call and a one person or a team of cleaners will be over to clean for me" sighs Madeline, a working wife and mom of 3. Madeline can have her home cleaned for a price of $80.00 - $175.00 for an average 2500 square foot home. Not only will they clean her home completely but they can come either weekly or biweekly, which ever she prefers, and she does not have to be home, they will keep her key at the office.
THE BAD
Madeline had the maid service come over the very next day. She had a team of 2 people. They cleaned her home very well, Madeline paid them $155.00 for 3 hours of cleaning and they scheduled her next cleaning appointment two weeks from that day before they left. Once the ladies were gone Madeline smiled, gave a sigh of relief and walked around to inspect the maid's good work. She did not seem to mind that they did not speak english since they cleaned so well. Upon her inspection she noticed her glass shower door was badly scratched. "Oh no, Madeline began to check each room. She started to notice they did not dust as well as she thought they did and when she went into her bedroom to her surprise she noticed her jewelry box was completely emptied of all of her valued and expensive jewelry. Madeline called the maid services' office and kept getting an answering machine, she thought they were closed; so she decided to wait until the morning. Once again no one answered the phones. She decided to call the better business bureau and she found out that they were not a licensed business that was not registered with her state. Madeline tried to pursue criminal charges but without any information there was not much the police could do. Madeline learned a valuable lesson. She learned to find out if the company is licensed, insured and bonded. Find out how long they have been in business. Also, whether or not their employees are legal or illegal immigrants.
THE UGLY
Many people decide to make extra money by offering maid services that do not abide by the laws of their state. Be sure that the maid service have done background and criminal checks on their employees. Ask for references. If they are to send people who speak a different language than you, ask if the other team manager will be able to interpret.
There are many reputable maid service companies out there that offer a valuable service. When you do find a maid service that is legal and reliable it can prove to be a long and satisfying union.
