Reading Glass Selection

by Arthur Pearlman of Reading Glass Pro (23-Feb-2009)

There is a definite correlation between age and reading glass power.

The chart below will help you determine what power reading glass might be best for you:

40-44 years or age: +1.00 to +1.25

45-49                           +1.50 to +1.75

50-55                          +2.00 to +2.25

56-64                           +2.25

65-Up                          +2.50

70-Up                          +2.75 t0 +3.00

Please be advised that this is just a guide and personal needs may vary.It is always recommended that if you are in doubt about selecting a power we suggest that you always use the weaker of the two powers.Selecting a power that is too strong may result in having to hold your reading material closer than comfortable.

If you are experiencing difficulty on your computer you will want to select a reader at least .50 diopters  weaker than your current reader or use and older weaker reading glass .

If you know that you have an astigmatic correction in your regular reading or distance glasses be advised that over the counter reading glasses will not correct your vision for optimal comfort.

For Opimal Visual Comfort And Protection You Should Have Your Eyes Examined By Your Eyecare Professional At Least Once A Year!!
