Play in the sun, make vitamin D!

Vitamin D is a hot topic right now! Here are just a few of the sunshine vitamin’s wonderful health benefits - it boosts your immunity by producing powerful antimicrobial compounds which help your body fight infection, helps calcium and magnesium do their jobs, and many findings show it protects against heart disease and cancer risks.

Unfortunately, the New England Journal of Medicine reports that 60% of Americans have a vitamin D deficiency.  But you can remedy that!

You can make 10,000 IU’s of vitamin D every day for free!! Just hang out in the sun in your shorts and a tee shirt for 15 minutes and your body will make vitamin D from the sunlight.  This is easy for us in Colorado - we get our D playing frisbee!  But if you live somewhere less sunny or can’t always get outside,  supplementing with between 800-1200 IU’s daily is a good bet for getting enough D.
