Costa Rica is becoming a destination for many Americans looking for affordable medical treatment. With round trip airline rates as cheap as $235-- from Miami to San Jose-- it now makes sense to seek treatment abroad. Costa Rica is one of many countries where affordable, quality, medical treatment is now available. For example, a colonoscopy that in the states can cost as much as $2,000, in Costa Rica, I personally paid $210. Most medical procedures including surgery are 50% to 80% cheaper in Costa Rica than here at home. Doctors in Costa Rica are just as competent as our doctors here in the United States. Most of them speak English and many have done their medical residency in the USA. Health insurance carriers like Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Humana, and Aetna now cover treatment performed in Costa Rica. Many patients combine their treatment with a vacation to Costa Rica. Vacation rentals also provide an affordable way to feel at home while keeping your cost under control.
