Looking For Cute fabric to make a I Spy Quilt? UpCycle

Want to make an I Spy Quilt?  Want it to be a special gift for your child?  Like your child's favorite cartoons, animals, racing cars, princess, and fairies?  But the problem is you can not find the fabric you are looking for?  Here is a suggestion that has worked for me.

UpCycle   Now you will ask me what is that?

All these companys are making all the cute clothes with prints that are not for sale.  Go to your local Goodwill, consignment stores,  garage sales or your child's closet for out grown clothes.  There is your fabric.

Now remember to watch your fabric content.  Just work with the same kinds of fabric, this makes it easier to work your project.

I like to work with 100% cotton fabric.   Then I pre-washed ( to take out the shrinkage) and  ironed (makes it easier to rotory cut).

You have that cute pair of pants ready to go but not sure what to do.

1. Cut them at the seam lines ( this is where the company sewed the pants together).

2. Iron out

3.  Deside the size you would like the quilt squares to be then add your sewing allowance.  I like 1/2 this give me a 1/4 in seam when sewing together.

4.  Arrange the Squares, then sew.
