Limos originated not as cars but as carriages in the central French countryside known as Limousin. In 1928 a trio of men, Tom Armbruster, Walter Walkford, and Charles Kaiser, took the idea of the limousin a step further by creating the first stretch limousine, built at Armbruster & Company in Arkansas. As the automobile gained in popularity the company was commission to build a stretch car which became so beloved and popular by the masses that building continued. Various chassis were used for the limousine, and it evolved with the times.
As the decades continued limousines became the go-to vehicle for the wealthy, elite and up and coming members of society. No Hollywood star or starlet during the golden age of film would arrive without a limousine. Dignitaries, sports figures, and other well-to-do individuals also rode in these luxury vehicles.
