Inground Pool Demolition and Built-in Pool Demo and fill-in

by Marc Pont of 360 Excavating & Demolition Company (28-Jul-2009)

You have an inground pool and you want to get rid of it.  What do you do, where do you start?  It is a HUGE piece of concrete, just a HUGE hole in the ground!  How much dirt will it take, where do I even begin?

Well, this is not something a do-it-yourself-er can do.  You need to call in a demolition contractor.  We've been called in to take over several times when the homeowner discovered the task at hand was far more than they first thought!  You'll need a professional Excavating & Demolition Company that has done many pool demolitions.  There are a lot of rules and regulations regarding pool demo's.

We bring two pieces of equipment to almost every job, first, the trackhoe, or excavator with a large breaker or hammer attached to it, this does most of the demolition.  It is used for the top apron, the sides, and the bottom. The entire bottom must be completely broken up, which sometimes is up to 24 inches thick!  The second machine is the backhoe.  We use this in conjunction with the trackhoe for busting the concrete, bringing dirt, compacting, and grading.  We also have a special attachment that goes onto the front of the backhoe for grading and removing rocks.  If there is enough room, we bring in the big guns, the TRIAXLES, for bringing in the dirt.  In some jobs there just isn't enough room, so we need to use smaller loaders.

So, you can see, it is not a homeowner project.  You need to call in the professionals.  Even with all our equipment and experience, a typical job takes from 3 to 5 days depending on the weather.
