Importance of Dog training.

by Robert E. Sotelo Jr. Certified Dog Trainer a of Chill Dawg Obedience (21-Oct-2009)

Give me attention, give me attention,  this is what a dog is asking for, most of the time, when they jump on you or your guest upon your arrival home.  Bark, bark, bark,  is what the dog does for your attention and most of the time, unintentionally, we reinforce the behaviors they are displaying.  Training is a continuous effort on the owners part.  It is up to the human to teach the dog what it is we want from him/her.  It is critical that you are consistent, patient, and practice, practice, practice.  Did I mention practice? 8 weeks of training does not mean your dog will be head of the class, or know all of its commands.  Ask any trainer.  They will say the same.  8 weeks does teach life long lessons that will give you the tools you need to gain, have, and project leadership.  It also provides a way for you to communicate to your pet and for your pet to understand you.  Whether your dog is in the  puppy hood stage or senior stages of life he/she can always learn how to learn from you. This is why training is important.  So get started and take the first step by making a phone call or sending an email to your local trainer.  Remember to reward all calm behavior!
