I've had customers ask me to guarantee them that when a potential client types their search words into Google, Yahoo, etc., that their site will be listed at the top of the results. I've been told that others have promised them that they could do this for them immediately. Be warned, if anyone makes you that promise, it's a lie!
There are many things that factor into a site's placement in search results, and it's not limited to the amount of money you pay any one company! Search engine's change their criteria on a regular basis. Here are a few tips to get you on the right track.
- One of the most important things I've found is in regards to Google's patented Page Rank technology. What it basically does is rank your site based on the sites that link to it. Make sure you have high ranking, relevant, sites linking back to yours! A site's ranking can be based on links to them, content, traffic, etc., so choose your affiliates wisely!
- Make sure your page's title includes relevant key words. Make good use of your meta tags and key words. You can verify the validity of your keywords on pages like www.wordtracker.com.
- Submit, submit, submit! Make sure you submit your site to any and all of the search engines!
Don't trust anyone who tells you that your site's search engine placement can be guaranteed by simply paying them X amount of dollars to advertise. It just doesn't work that way!
