How to clean like a Pro!

by Tave Costa of HandyMaid Services (10/14/2008)

The average home takes at least 6 hours to clean. These are hours that you'd rather be doing anything else! If you are lucky enough to have a supporting family that will help you clean, then this cleaning time can actually drop to 2 hours or increase to many days.

Professional house cleaning services get the average house cleaned in 1 to 1 1/2 hours. They don't cut corners and often clean places that you'd only do yearly.

These seemingly tireless professionals have a few tricks up their sleeves for accomplishing the most work in the shortest amount of time. Here are just a few that can help you keep your home looking like a showcase:

1. Be prepared .
You’ve probably noticed that most professional housekeepers use trays stocked with everything they’ll need for the cleaning task at hand. They have a tray for the bathroom, one for the kitchen and one for dusting and polishing. Alternatively, they don’t carry more than they need. Go through your cleaning supplies and eliminate all but the necessary tools, and store them together in a portable containers.

2. Time line.
You don't have to spring clean every week! By scheduling tasks, you’ll be less inclined to avoid or forget them. Decide which cleaning tasks need to be done every day, every week, or on a less frequent schedule. You’ll spend less time thinking about what you have to do and have more time to do it. It also helps to time yourself during each task.

3. Speed clean.
Work top to bottom and left to right and one room at a time. Don’t retrace your steps, cleaning will be much faster and easier if you develop a regular routine for each area of your home. Do dry work first (dusting) and wet work last.

4. A Family that works together.
Professional housekeepers work in teams. Making a king-sized bed may only take a few minutes for one person, but with two people it takes only seconds. Enlisting the help of family members will not only make the job go faster, but you’ll also keep each other motivated. Assign one person to bathrooms, one to the kitchen and one the dusting and vacuuming.

5. The big reward.
Everyone gets paid! Professional cleaners get a pay check, make sure that your team gets rewarded. "Because I said so...", is not a just reward. Go to dinner, a special show. Remember that cash is always good, that means you too!

6. If all else fails..

Of course the best way to clean like a pro is to hire one.  It's great to come home to a clean house and it actually helps everyone be more aware and keep it clean longer.
