How to clean a Tub or Shower

by John Mastelotto of The New Look (1-Jun-2009)

It's a common problem: people use Ajax and a scrub pad to clean their tubs, showers, sinks and toilets. That method cleans well at first, but after about 6 months or so those fixtures become harder to clean, and you'll notice they're no longer shiny and pretty. Some try comet with a scrub pad and get the same poor result. Sadly, I've heard it over and over again!

Let me say, first of all, that Ajax is the very worst cleanser that anyone could use on those fixtures! It's very abrasive, and using it with a scrub pad is like using a sandpaper that will remove almost anything. Like the shine, for instance. It's always a good rule to read the product label to see if it has any abrasive acids in it. If it does? Don't buy it.

The best cleansers to use are Comet, Lysol Tub and Tile Cleaner, and Dawn, with a plain sponge or washcloth only! The best way to clean is to get a spray bottle and pour a quarter of Comet or Dawn into the bottle, and fill the rest with water. Then seal the bottle and shake it up, let it sit for a few minutes, then spray it on what you're going to clean. Then use a washcloth or sponge and clean. Rinse with water after cleaning and dry with towel, or you can simply let it dry on it's own.

You get a much better result than with abrasive cleaners. Hope these tips help you!
