Basset Hounds are a very social breed, but usually lazy; they're generally low maintenance dogs. When dealing with a Basset Hound you need to make sure to keep their ears clean. Their long ears prevent airflow to the ear canal and hold in moisture that can lead to painful ear infections. Basset Hounds will love you endlessly, and will forgive you if you make a mistake. The Basset is a breed that wants to lay on your front porch, couch, lap, or any surface you will allow them to lay on. If you are looking for a dog to play fetch with or exercise with the Basset Hound may not be the right breed for you.
Another breed you might enjoy is the Olde English Bulldogge. Please understand these dogs are NOT English Bulldogs (like the UGA dog). Olde English Bulldogges are taller, have a longer nose, and typically have less health problems. Olde English Bulldogges are great alarm dogs. They are very agile and alert. They are protective of their home, and family. Olde English Bulldogges are a friendly and loving pet. They love to run and play fetch or other games. They are very sweet, playful, and loving. Please keep in mind that while Olde English Bulldogges can live in apartments or small areas, they will need a place to run so they can burn off excess energy. If you are looking for a dog that can keep up with you than an Olde English Bulldogge is the breed for you.
