There are many questions a family who is thinking about adopting a new puppy or adult Goldendoodle should ask about the kennel and the puppies produced at the kennel. Parent dogs should be health and temperament tested to assure of the best quality puppies produced. You will need to ask your prospective breeder about the testing and the temperament of the parents. The Goldendoodle is a loving, loyal dog and has a keen sense of smell. They can be taught to enjoy swimming, as both the retriever and Poodle elements of their heritage normally enjoy water. Goldendoodles are intelligent, friendly, and great with kids, just like their Golden Retriever and Standard Poodle parents. They are easily trained, highly social, and by nature are easy with strangers and other dogs. They love to play, and commonly retain the strong retrieving instincts of the Golden Retriever. The Goldendoodle should not be trained as a watchdog as it is highly unlikley that he will respond to this.
To assure quality, you should inquire about the registration of the parent dogs. They should be AKC registered. The Goldendoodle is not recognized by the American Kennel Club, so the offspring will not be AKC registered, but can be registered with the Continental Kennel Club as well as other clubs.
Goldendoodles are a wonderful breed. They are extremely friendly and versatile; At home in the city or in the country. They do require exercise every day. There are 3 different sizes of goldendoodles: Standard, mini and petite or toy. They also come in different coats and are bred in F1, F1b and F2. The F1 is a Golden Retriever bred to a Poodle and the F1b is usually a Goldendoodle bred back to a poodle. Some breeders do the Goldendoodle bred back to the Golden Retriever (the coat on this offspring will resemble more of the Golden Retriever) The Coats can be straight to curly depending on the parent dogs.
The more wavy the coat, the more low shedding and allergy friendly the dog/puppy should be. The temperament should be happy, playful but mellow and sweet. Goldendoodles are easily trained for service and therapy due to their sweet, loving nature. They are more than willing to learn.
