Get Out of Your Current Funk

by Art Gibb, freelance writer on behalf of Healthy Edge LLC (13-Jan-2012)

Most adults know what it's like to "get in a funk," or "fall into a rut." These phrases are used to describe losing one's zest for life. You're trudging along, day after day, stuck in the tedium. It can happen to anyone during any point of life, and it can cause some individuals to act out dramatically, just trying to "feel alive again."

But you don't need to have an affair or buy a motorcycle to get out of your current funk. Instead, consider some simpler proactive steps to take in order to shake up your life.

Contact a life coach for women in your area. A life coach is not to be mistaken for a therapist; instead, a life coach is meant to help you set goals and then do what it takes to achieve them. With the help of a professional life coach for women, you can formulate a good old-fashioned "bucket list," and then create viable plans to check it off, item by item.

Along the same lines, make sure that your health is optimum, and if it isn't, it's time to set some realistic, achievable aims to do what you need to do--lose weight, improve your skin condition, eat healthier, and so on. But remember to be specific and--again--realistic in each ambition. Instead of saying, "I want to lose weight," you will instead want to project, "I will lose ten pounds by the end of March."

Getting a certified nutrition specialist on board can be so useful, as he or she will educate you about the food choices you're currently making and how alterations to your diet will affect how you feel.

Turn on your problem solving skills. If there are specific barriers holding you back from a fullness of joy, then you need to take action rather than lie back and bemoan your current condition.

For example, if you hate your job, then take the steps necessary to change positions. Update your resume, write a stunning cover letter, and work the classified ads. That doesn't always work out, though, so take smaller measures to be satisfied with where you are. Work a little harder to stand out for a promotion, get to know your coworkers better, or give yourself a little treat at the end of each workday to reward yourself for getting through it.

Try to bear consequences in mind for every choice you make. I say this because many people do, in fact, harm their lives in the long term when they try to get out of their rut. You should instead see this as an opportunity to improve yourself and the lives of those around you.
