Well now you too can easily have the same professional look to your site easier than ever because you use Homestead to build your site!!
Follow these simple steps to have your website looking as updated and professional as Google, Homestead, Yahoo! and more!
Step One: Create a logo or have someone create one for you. The logo image is tiny!! 16x16 pixels, so a clean neat simple logo should do the trick. Try to stay away from bulky images also, this doesnt look too good next to your business name on the web! Be sure to save the tiny image as ".ico"example : tinylogoname.ico
Step Two: Visit FavIcon from Pics they have a neat favicon generator to generate the file to upload to your website's folder. They explain also how easy it is to add to your site along with frequently asked questions.
Step 3. Get it on Homestead. Log into your homestead site builder and select view -> file manager. Once in the file manager section, select import. A file browser window will open up and you should select the file containing your icon image, .ico file. Once you import you have to publish the file. So locate the file you just imported and right click on it. A file pop up should open, and you should select the publish option.
(After uploading your new logo , downloading your file created by the generator and uploaded your image to your homestead user/ site file continue to step #4.
Step 4: Now locate your index page and select page properties -> Advanced. This is where you will place the icon code. Please do not let the word advanced scare you at this point. This is so simple and so easy to do a 2 year old can accomplish this professional looking mini logo .
Step 5. Paste this <link rel="icon" href="yourfilename.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="yourfilename.ico" type="image/x-icon" /> in the section that says <Head> Tag . Be sure to only ad the file name as homestead keeps it simple for its users to not have to retype the complete location of the file.
Example: "http://www.you.com/logo.ico" instead use "logo.ico".
Step 6. Once you have pasted your file in the Head Tag section select save then publish the SITE.
