Real gamblers have long grumbled about the uselessness of $5 limit wagering at Colorado casinos. So, in 2008, voters passed Amendment 50 which takes effect July 2, 2009. Amendment 50 allows for 24 hour 7 days a week gaming, increased wagering to $100, live craps and roulette at all Colorado casinos, including Blackhawk, Central City and Cripple Creek. In addition to increasing bet limits and gambling hours, Amendment 50 provides Colorado community colleges a portion of the casinos' income.
Increased betting limits, live craps, live roulette and 24 hour gambling will allow Colorado gamblers Vegas-style action in the mountains. Casinos are upping the ante by raising their customer service standards and brining in more suits. One casino, the Ameristar Casino, has already invested in a 526 room high-rise hotel and spa that stands out on the Main Street strip like a Las Vegas Casino. Isle of Capri's Colorado Central Station Casino has changed their name to "Lady Luck Casino", separating its Colorado roots for a more mainstream moniker.
Colorado gamblers can now travel 40 minutes and find Vegas-style action and excitement – hallelujah!
