As a secretary for over 30 years I have transcribed many transcripts, briefs, letters, court proceedings, et cetera from taped dictation. I also have had a great love for knitting since I was a young girl.
This past year I was knitting a pair of socks that incorporated a cable pattern consisting of 12 rows of pattern. I was getting tired of constantly looking at written directions on a crumbled piece of paper. I was marking off each row as I completed it so that I knew where I was in the pattern. When the 12 rows were completed I would start the sequence again.
It dawned on me one day that perhaps listening to dictated stitch by stitch instructions would facilitate the knitting of all these rows. I was able to dictate stitches onto my MP3 player and play the dictated rows back to myself at my leisure. With the dictation I didn't miss stitches and I didn't have to keep referring to instructions to determine the next stitch to knit.
Since then I have dictated several patterns to MP3 files. I have dictated washcloth patterns, a leafy lace stole, and a sky blue placemat/doily. I created a demonstrator video and put in on www.Youtube.com/1stskinnymini so that others could listen to the dictation and visually see me knitting to it. I have gotten some good reviews on the site.
