Are Toys Blocking Buyers' View of Your Home?

by La Toya Williams of STAGING HOME DESIGN (23-Feb-2009)

Let's face it, we all have a tendency to spoil our children with toys. That's fine when you are living in your home, but when you are selling your home all clutter must be removed, including toys.

7 tips for storing toys:

  • Allow the kids to fill one trash bag with toys and pack up and store the rest until the move to the new house.  Award them with a special treat for their cooperation. Get the kids excited about the move by talking about how their new room will look and allow them to pick out something special for their new room.
  • Pack up unused toys and give away to charity
  • Throw out broken toys
  • Host a neighborhood yard sale- get rid of toys and other no longer needed items plus make some extra cash
  • Store toys in a large wicker basket or toy box and place in the closet.
  • Separate toys by catergory and store in plastic storage bins, place in the closet. Don't forget to label!
  • Store toys under the bed using containers made just for storing under the bed. Consider using bed risers to raise the bed.
