American's Historical Blindness!

by Brian Michael of BeyondTheBias.com (31-Aug-2009)

Because of America’s own ignorance about the founding and establishing of its democracy and the internal struggles that insured, history has shown a pattern of foreign intervention based on the notion a democracy is not built by a long struggle for freedom or painful process. Instead it is instantaneously created by an edict or proclamation. For those in the majority it maybe the case but for those in the minority, poor, powerless and uneducated democracy is a long excruciating process. How then can we relate to another nations struggle for freedom when we do not understand our own?  For if we did, intervention into other conflicts would proceed with more discernment and wisdom then American foreign policy has manifested over the years, policies that empowered the majority  and extremists.

Many within the Conservative Party make no attempt to reconcile their extreme nationalism with the sins of America’s past.  Therefore, the latter must be downplayed so patriotism and glories of America can shine. However by ignoring the oppression and inequality many  have faced, they do not validate nor honor the suffering of many minority groups and fail to understand the different perceptions of history that exist within them. They overstate the importance of individualism and downplay historical consequences of it and therefore understate the obligations we have to provide equality for all.

Thank You
