Go Green, Go Glamour, Go Vintage

Marilyn, Kelly, Bardot, Bergman - Cool, hip, stylish, sexy and affordable! It’s not just about antique anymore; now high quality vintage from the 20’s to the 80’s are available, and quite possibly more in style now than in their era.  With the tightening of the buck many people are turning to pre-owned, near new quality clothing. dresses, coats, jewelry, purses and accessories. Items range from the 1920's to the 1980's. The benefit is two-fold, save money while getting green and conserving resources. Not to mention the savings lets face it many of us could touch a couture Chanel dress but going vintage makes it possible. High fashion- at a fraction of the price it doesn't hurt that vintage is fashionable today. Just take a trip to the mall and you will see 70's style dresses, 40's style swing coats and purses from the 40's-80's being re-made and re-marketed.

Green is not a buzz word.  The need to conserve should not only apply to energy.  Every day thru-out the world an unbelievable amount of clothing and other items are discarded.  The reasons vary from down sizing homes to, it didn’t fit like it did in the store, the color doesn’t suit me in sunlight and the list go’s on and on.  It comes down to is everything today is disposable thankfully, today’s society is becoming more aware of the impact this destructive behavior is having on our planet and are turning to reuse by consigning, thrift shops and charity donations.

Finding quality vintage clothing and accessories is not an easy task, Nor is it a quick process. Searching through thrift stores all day, private party buying or estate sales does not guarantee you come home with anything stellar. Shopping online gives you a wider selection with out all the hassle and may be your best bet.  Tip: When looking for treasures make sure you inspect your items well check for irreversible damage such as moth holes (you can usually find them if you hold an item up to the light separating the layers of material), check for unusual smell (keep in mind that may of these items have been stored and can have some smell to them the important thing is can it be dry cleaned out), and stains never buy an item with stains getting them out is a gamble, finally remember that sizing has changed drastically over the years and a size 8 in the 40’s is a today’s size 4 or 6- always, try the item on.
