12 Step Plan for Setting up a Golf Scramble

by john cross of The Starter Shack (23-Feb-2009)

If you are planning a golf scramble the word PLAN is very important. Below you will find a plan that I have used in the past. I hope it will be helpful. Most golf courses will bend over backwards to help you with your scramble. Your first step is to find a golf course.

1).   Find a golf course to host your scramble or outing.

2).   Get a price in a dollar amount for the use of the golf course. Check the refund policy if there is a reserving cost.

3).   Now that you have chosen the golf course and all the details have been agree upon, reserve the golf course for a date, well in advance for your scramble.

4). Now start building your golf scramble.

5).   A simple equation = GOLF COURSE RENTAL / NUMBER OF PLAYERS EXPECTED. This will give you a guideline to go by.

6).   Create a flyer with all the details of your scramble on it. Post the flyer in several places.

7).   Your flyer should include the golf course name, the cost per player, a date, a start time and a phone number to call to sign up for the scramble and any prizes you plan to offer, including door prizes. (DOOR PRIZES ARE A GOOD DRAWING CARD).

8).   Choose a person or a group who will take the names of the players who wish to participate in your scramble. One or two phone numbers for sign up is preferable, no more than two.

9).   Promote your scramble. Get players interested in the event. Start with known golfers who like these kinds of events.

10). Be truthful and realistic to all parties involved, including the host. Keep the host up to date with your progress.

11). Prepare an agenda for the day of the scramble.

12). When the day comes, set yourself in an open and clear place with signs stating sign in here. Be prepared with a new signup sheet for the actual players that show up to play (keep your old list handy). You will need a cash box, pencils and change. Good Luck!
