Peaceful Cottage- A Place to Always Call Home
Kiera Gray of The Irish Jewelry Company
In January, we joyfully acquired Peaceful Cottage, located in the West of Ireland. Peaceful Cottage will be offered as a self-catering cottage rental this summer.
Peaceful Cottage has been owned by our family since it was originally purchased in the 70’s by the owner’s father. Modernized in the late 80’s, it was originally a thatched roof cottage that dated back to pre-famine Ireland. The pre-famine stone wall still surrounds the property today.
Recently in the past few years growing costs of maintenance for the cottage had been the center of much family debate for years. So in a valiant effort to preserve our parent’s legacy and to pass on Irish history and tradition to future generations two brothers decided to purchase Peaceful Cottage in 2005. But when faced with a weak US dollar, increasing property prices in Ireland and the ever soaring oil prices, costs to maintain the property still remained an issue. Our dream seemed impossible. Until our company The Irish Jewelry Company was born in 2006, the brain child of one of the brothers and his wife, both of whom had prosperous careers in the jewelry industry in manufacturing, marketing and jewelry design.
Our company was originally envisioned as way to sell Irish products and jewelry to help support the cottage and as a vehicle to rent it as a self-catering cottage one day. Thankfully, today the company is a thriving business all of its own, selling imported Irish jewelry and gifts inspired by their love of ancient Celtic symbolism and centuries old traditions, but it was born from a dream of finding the means to preserve the memory of ones beloved parents and saving the family home in Ireland. A true Irish Blessing in disguise.
Peaceful Cottage has been transformed into a place where Irish Americans families can stay and experience their own Irish heritage. It’s an affordable place for families to stay while they explore the Ireland they’ve heard so many stories about.

The Irish Jewelry Company, We Are Greening Our Office!
Kiera Gray of The Irish Jewelry Company
Franklin Square, NY–July, 2008 –We recently became members of an environmental organization called NRDC. The Natural Resources Defense Council is a huge national grassroots organization with over 1.2 million members and online activists. It was founded in 1970 and it is committed to safeguarding “the Earth: its people, its plants and animals and the natural systems on which all life depends.”
Through the guidance of this organization we are committed to “Greening” our business. We are restructuring our internal procedures for pulling orders by only using a packing slip. In the past we printed the invoice and their packing slip to pull orders. By eliminating one piece of paper in the order process we now only print a packing slip to pull an order. Unfortunately the drawback is a slightly wrinkled packing slip; we hope our customers will understand!
In addition to substantially reducing paper use we have switched our brand of printer paper to an all purpose recycled paper. We are using a 100% post-consumer content paper that meets or exceeds the Government Printing Office and EPA’s standard for recycled paper. The brand we have chosen is processed without using chlorine or chlorine compounds and is FSC certified and endorsed by the Rainforest Alliance. Through using 100% recycled paper we are saving tress, conserving water, reducing solid waste, saving energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Our office lighting has been changed to compact fluorescent bulbs, that use 75% less energy, produce 75% less heat and last up to 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs.
· Processed without using chlorine or chlorine compounds
· FSC certified and endorsed by the Rainforest Alliance
· Using 100% recycled paper, saves trees, reduces solid waste, conserves water, saves energy and reduces emissions of greenhouse gases
· Acid free for archival quality documents
· 100% post-consumer content, meets or exceeds the Government Printing Office and EPA’s standard for recycled paper.
