You can purchase programs for your event, but making it yourself is truly personal, as you have room to put a note to your guests, you can put who has what Aliyah, you can describe your Torah portion and Haftorah and what it means to you, tell of your Mitzvot project, etc.
For my son’s Hanukah Bar Mitzvah, I even put pictures of cute dreidels and gave directions for the Dreidel game. I also always include special things that go into the service and descriptions of what they mean, so that non-Jewish guests will know what is going on and be able to enjoy and participate better. I then print the program on beautiful paper, sometimes attach a tassel and give out at the Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
Be sure to have your Rabbi/Hazzan/Cantor check the program for any corrections before your final printing.
