Letter from Coton de Tulear Puppy

Cookie MacDonell (08/01/2008)

GloryThe following letter is written in the words of a Coton de Tulear puppy.  She is leaving her birthparents and home to go and live with her forever parents in her new home.

Hi, I am your new Coton de Tulear puppy. I hope you will give me a good home and love me a lot.  If you do, I will be a good and loyal pet all during my lifetime.  Remember to be patient with me, and not to yell at me or punish me.  After all, I am just a baby.  I will try to do everything you ask, but sometimes I might not understand what you want.  Please do not put me on a leash and pull me around.  I will need time to get to know you because you are a stranger to me.  If you practice walking me in the backyard, I will learn to follow you on the leash.

If you put down some piddle pads for me, I will use them most of the time.  Sometimes I forget and sometimes I miss the pad, but I always try really, really hard.

I love toys, toys, toys.  I chew them, chase them, and run with them.  If you throw them, I will run after them.  I may or may not bring them back to you.

I love to run and play.  I am so happy to be alive; you will see that joy in me every day.  If you let me, I will infect you with the same joy in living that I feel.

I will have my first series of immunizations (DHPP-C) & be de-wormed at the age of 8 weeks.  I am eating dry kibble now.  My grandma feeds me Innova dog food—the adult variety in the green bag.   I do not need puppy food because I am a small dog.  She cooks chicken and mixes some in with my food each day because she loves me so much.  I also get dried liver treats when I am really good; I am almost always really good.  Several times a week she mixes some cottage cheese in with my kibble because it is good for me.

When you bathe me, please do not get water on my nose because it scares me, and I will not want to be bathed again.  Also, please do not get water in my ears because if they do not dry, I might get ear infections.  When you groom me, be careful of my feet, as I have dew claws, and it really hurts me if you catch one of them with the comb or brush.

Please continue my socialization training.  I need to meet lots of people, go lots of places, and have many experiences.  This will help me develop into the best possible puppy, and I want to be the very best just for you.

Do not  leave me alone for very long.  I do not do thrive if I am left for longer than 4 hours at a time.  I cannot watch over you and take care of you if you are not with me.

I want nothing more than to be with you and to love you. I cannot give you material things, but I will love you all of my life.  When you are worried or sorrowful, I will cuddle with you and let you know I care.  This is what I have to give to you, and I will give it all.

Love, your Coton de Tulear puppy
